arTerra Club - rules // march-april Theme

Sun Mar 16, 2008, 8:11 AM
Earth is our home, but also a great source of inspiration…for artists, right?
We wellcome you to open your eyes! what do you see Earth like? ... and open your heart! How do you feel Earth?

It’s time we faced it: we have taken soooo much from our Planet and given so little (or nothing) in return. arTerra Club it’s a challenge for you to create art for our Planet.

A little bit of rules (yap, they’re necessary)

What kind of art we DO receive in this club?

…well, mainly eco-based. The way you see Earth nowadays, the way you remember Earth was when you were young (yap, it HAS changed a lot since then) and most of all, the way you would like it to be in the future, when you grow old, for your children. Will they still enjoy a walk in a green forest and play hide and seek on a pasture of flowers? That’s up to each of you!

What kind of art we do NOT receive in this club:
…well, any type of aggressive/ xenophobe/ porno art. We reserve the right to judge and either accept or deny a submission if we consider it does not fit the above mentioned rules.
…wips/ scratch/ unfinished or improperly cropped/etc, badly scanned, etc art. Be honest now, image IS important for any artist…so, what kind of artist do you want to be?

To make things a little ordered, each month will have its own theme. We will only accept art fitting this Theme. We believe transparency of decisions is very important, so each month we’ll have a poll where we’ll ask our members to suggest themes for the next month and so on.

What would you change? Can little people [here meaning non-politicians/ extremely rich, etc] do something about it? We believe WE can. …and ART is a great medium to do it, as it has a special magic to reach people’s hearts.

Sooo, we expect art from your hearts. Art for Terra. :sun:

We encourage creativity in any chosen medium. (photography –film or digital, photo manipulation, drawing and illustration – traditional or digital, collage, sculpture, land-art, manufactured objects, etc).
______________________________________________________________________

First theme will start today, 16th of March …but considering it’s our first month (and not a complete one), it will go on till 30th of April 2008. [so, a month and a half].
:sun: Here it goes: mid March – April theme: cruelty to Animals. Is it really necessary?

Please DO read the following:

Cute, happy animals are encouraged to appear in your deviations…but this is not the main focus here. The theme might seam a little rough, but the reality asks for it. In an age we consider ourselves the most intelligent life forms on Earth, the only ones with reason, etc …the way some humans treat animals - is it not a sign of going back on the evolution scale? …towards barbarity and instincts?
Find solutions! Why do we/ don’t we need this? What can we do to stop it? etc.
Inform yourselves____Be creative____Change mentalities through your art!

Fact file: reason for this first theme: The Romanian government has adopted a law allowing legal hunting (with any type of mechanical and animal weapons) inside Protected Areas. Link to this law is here (in Romanian): [link]

I’m sure each of you, in your countries have protected areas (ranging from National Parks to Natural Reserves, protected Wetlands, etc). It’s also well known that biodiversity is highly and alarmingly decreasing (mainly due to human intrusion that either capture/ kill animals or they destroy their natural habitat, forcing them to migrate/die by lack of shelter/ food, etc). Since such areas were considered protected it’s only illogical to allow a destructive activity, most of all considering there are so many endangered species still striving to live a life there.
We found out about this here: [link]
This Romanian (sorry, only Romanian version of the site is available so far) NGO has opened an online petition [link] to stop Hunting in Protected Areas. Step a click and give your support! They have also allied themselves with other big NGOs (such as WWF, Greenpeace, local NGO SalvatiDeltaAcademiaCatavencu, etc) and are working on a greater campaign.
Let’s help by doing what we like the most… art!

  • Mood: Optimism
  • Playing: around ...on green fields
